Underfloor Heating

Laminates and engineered boards are perfect for underfloor heating where the heating elements are embeddedfloors into the sub floor   provided you use an underlay that has been designed to allow heat permeation   - foam underlay is NOT suitable for underfloor heating as it contains air   bubbles which act as an isulator and reduce the heating effect.

Softwoods such as Pine should NOT be used with underfloor heating as they   are very likely to develop splits and cracks.

Full hardwood solids can be used with underfloor heating provided that   Elastilon® Strong is used; this is an underlay specially developed for solid   floors and underfloor heating, it has elastic properties which allow the boards to   expand and contract. It has adhesive surface for attaching the boards so that   there is no need to glue the boards along their length, again allowing the   boards to expand and contract in response to changes in the heat. Elastilon® is also suitable for engineered boards and gives a superior performance to standard cross-link underlay.

(Note: if you are fitting nay type of laminated or wooden flooring onto underfloor heating, you must follow the advice of the heating supplier and any restrictions stated by them as failure to do this could invalidate the warranties on the heating.)

Did you know that floor coverings can affect you children's health?

kidsChronic asthma is the most frequent long-term, children's disease. About one to   two per cent of all children get chronic asthma during their childhood.

Approximately 15 to 20 per cent of all children will have symptoms of wheeze   without having chronic asthma.

Advice from the Asthma Campaingn:

"Consider replacing carpets with linoleum, tiled or polished wood flooring which   are easier to clean and don't harbour house-dust mites".
